HELP SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT! START "FREECYCLING" TODAY!
Do you have items in your home that you no longer need, but don't want to
throw away? The idea of www.freecycle.org is to help keep items out of landfills that could be used by others. It's an international movement to help the environment.
If you need specific items, you can find them here too! There are all kinds of items
offered.... washers, dryers, refrigerators, home improvement supplies, clothes,
televisons, furniture, lamps, small appliances, holiday items, baby items &
so much more! You could say it's not only environment friendly, but also
"economy friendly!!"

THIS JUST IN (Sept 2009)!!!
FROM THE ACT/SPOONER HOUSE IN SHELTON:
The ACT/Spooner House, located at 30 Todd Road in Shelton currently has a
"No Freeze" policy in force. If the temperature falls below 32 degrees and someone
is in need of shelter, the ACT/Spooner House will not deny a person to stay the night.
Certain restrictions apply regarding hours available for stay. Call for more information.
A note from John Trovarelli, Case Manager:
October and November will have their own “special” activities, as well. Please don’t
forget that Wakelee Memorial is continuing to sponsor tables for ACT/Spooner House
at the ANSONIA HARVEST FEST – SATURDAY, 10/3 FROM 10AM-4PM on Main Street, Ansonia AND at SHELTON DAY – SUNDAY 10/4 FROM 10AM-5PM on Howe Avenue,
Shelton. Stop by to say hi! and get some of John Z’s special recipe cider!! If you can
give us an hour or so to stand by the table and give out cider, don’t be shy, give us a call,
or just stop by!!
November is a VERY busy month for us here at Spooner House, especially
in the Food Bank. We have oodles of food to sort, donations to accept and holiday
baskets to assemble and distribute for Thanksgiving Dinners for those who are struggling
and need food for the holidays. The INVITATION IS OPEN to one and all to call us and
find out how you can help – and, believe me, we do need the help at this time of year!!
We also have some slots open to help with lunch and dinner serving and to help out in
the food bank. Have some extra time that you want to fill?? Call us…..

CURRENT COMMUNITY DRIVE:
Fourth Annual Holiday Toy drive:
Between November 20th and December 20th, 2009, we are collecting new,
unwrapped toys for Valley children in need. This year, we are teaming up
with Toys for Tots as a drop off location. An additional drop off locaiton is
Webster Bank, located at 503 Howe Avenue, Shelton during regular bank hours.
Help us brighten a child's Holiday this year!

Help the Valley become a National Heritage Area. You just need to live or work in a
Valley Town in order to cast your vote by filling out and mailing in the below form.
This will not only mean Naugatuck River Valley National Heritage Area status and
as much as $1,000,000 per year in grants for the next 10 years, but also the following:
- Expansion of arts and education programs and facilities for adults and children
- Preservation and restoration of historical sites
- Enhancement of the local economy through expanded tourism
